A Small Group on Every Street

Pastor Brady made the vision statement yesterday that he desires to see a small group meeting on every street in our city. Wow! What a powerful, challenging, convicting, and desirous vision to see fulfilled! But it's also a very possible vision that can be fulfilled.

When I think about vision, I think about Bob Ross paintings. You know the guy with the big fro that painted happy trees and bushes everywhere. A common part of Bob Ross paintings were mountain scenes often off in the distance and then he would bring images closer and closer. You see our vision is what we want to see when we get to the top of the mountain and look over. But the things that are closer to our view now, are milestones and markers that help us to know which way to get to the top of the mountain.

So if our vision is to see a small group meeting on every street in Murfreesboro.

We then need to consider what the milestones are to be that will lead us there.

Think about these milestones:

If we estimate that in the 37130 zip code alone there are 300 streets, then that would be 300 groups.

That would be 300 leaders
That would be 300 hosts
That would be 300 places to meet
That can seem a little overwhelming to consider, especially when you think that is just one zip code here in Murfreesboro.

Yet think about what that means for the impact made for Jesus!

If those 300 groups average 10 people, just 5 couples, that is 3000 additional people meeting in groups on top of what is already meeting.

That would be 300 groups that are being lights for Jesus Christ in their neighborhoods.

That would be 300 groups that are multiplying disciples that could lead to more groups and disciples being multiplied.

Now please I don't want to get into the numbers game by any means.

But hear me when I say that the potential is here among us now and the fact that we get serious about living out the God-sized and called vision, means that we aren't living for the here and now alone, but we are seeing that the majority of people that are going to be a part of this vision, are not even here among us yet!

That is an adventure! That is the great unknown, but we have a Great God that is going to lead us for His glory, not for ours!

Are you ready to join in the vision that God has in store? Are you ready to see the people that we can reach that we can't see yet?

Join with me as we begin the journey together and continue to experience groups as we #dontdolifealone.

Here is your opportunity to begin the adventure! Check out to start your preparation.

Discipleship Triangle: Up-In-Out- Super Summer edition

I Corinthians 4:16-17  Therefore I exhort you, be imitators of me. For this reason, I have sent to you Timothy, who is my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, and he will remind you of my ways which are in Christ, just as I teach everywhere in every church. From Paul's words, we can see the encouragement (imperative) is to be an imitator. For this week at Super Summer in the discipleship sessions, we discussed what it means to be an imitator of Jesus Christ.  To be imitators of Jesus Christ is to be rooted in Christ as we recognize the authority and lordship of Jesus in our lives! What He says (His Word), we are to do! Simple enough right? Yet this is the very thing that we struggle with, just as in a game of Simon Says, we can miss it if we aren't listening. So the focus this week is to stop in the busyness of our lives and spend time listening to God and then to see how this carries forward to everyday. The example that we use is the Discipleship triangle called Up-I

The Stages of a Group: How to build group cohesion

The Stages of a Group: How to build group cohesion How many of us when we start to meet with a group of people, we experience either a great connection or a flop? Often, we begin to look at ourselves and wonder what if this was really what we were supposed to do. Don’t worry, don’t get stressed. What we have found is that groups experience a natural outworking of how much they desire to stick together. The term is called group cohesion, which is basically how sticky they are. Larry Osborne has a book called “Sticky Church” and the process that Osborne promotes the most as to how sticky a church will be is through their small groups. Osborne says, “Anytime a group of friends commit to gather together to share their lives, pray, and discuss the biblical text and life application…good stuff happens.” The gathering together is how a group becomes cohesive with one another. What is interesting though is that this just doesn’t automatically happen. There are times
